chikungunya fever mapDifficult to Distinguish from Dengue Fever

Chikungunya fever is a disease that resembles Dengue fever a lot and is also transmitted through the bites of mosquitoes of the Aedes species.
A typical case of Chikungunya will bring sudden high temperatures to the patient and joint pains and swellings in mainly hands, fingers, wrists, elbows, ankles and knees, between 2 and 6 days after the patient got infected. The pain can make patients very weak for weeks or months and occasionally effects can last several years. More often than not the patient will have rash on the torso and limbs.

Deaths are rare, but the financial costs of Chikungunya fever are high.

Although the disease can be painful, it seldom leads to complication. Just as with Dengue fever, there is no cure for Chikungunya fever. The symptoms of the disease are being relieved with plenty of rest and medication against joint pains like Ibuprofen. To prevent other from getting infected it is recommended that the patient sleeps isolated and uses a bednet.
The disease seldom leads to loss of life, but the prolonged weakness of the patient will bear an economic cost due to not being able to work and therefore lack of income.
We strongly advice anyone the see a doctor or hospital in case of suspected Dengue or Chikungunya cases. Those effected by Chikungunya should sleep seperate under a mosquito net to prevent infecting others.

If you are only targeting Aedes mosquitoes you best buy one of our traps that does not need CO2. The BG-Mosquitaire and the BG-Bowl are especially designed to catch Aedes mosquitoes.
