An Artificial Human Scent
Biogents’ scientists have been able to create an attractant that mimics the the smell of the human skin: the BG-Sweetscent. The scent contains fatty acid, lactic acid and small quantities of ammonia and is difficult for mosquitoes to resist. Especially mosquitoes of the Aedes species are attracted to the Sweetscent.
Sweetscent does not smell sweet
The artificial human scent increases the catch rates of our mosquito traps even more when used together with CO2. With the added use of CO2 also Culex mosquitoes will get attracted. The scent comes in sachets that release the scent over time in a controlled manner. Tiny polymere particles hold the three active ingredients and guarantee an evenly dispersed scent plume. The scent leaves through a membrane (the sachet) and in turn attracts mosquitoes. The sachets protect the attractives against water, moisture and light.
Shelflife of the BG-Sweetscent
The BG-Sweetscent has a shelf life of 18 months. It expires two months after opening and being put in our traps. Once the sweetscent loses its attractiveness, it can be safely disposed off by adding it to your normal household waste. Our sweetscent can also be added to non-Biogents mosquito traps to increase their catch rates.
Tip! The Sweetscent smells rather strong for the first 48-72 hours. The smell is so strong that it even has a repelling effect on mosquitoes. This means that you should not expect large mosquitoes numbers in the catch bag for the first 3 days. To make your trap catch from day one, simply open the packaging and let the Sweetscent ‘breath’ outside for the first 3 days. After 3 days the sachet can be inserted into your Biogents trap.
