A Remote Monitoring Device for Mosquito Control
Biogents is the first company in the world that has made a remote monitoring tool for mosquito control: the BG-Counter.
Especially for Pest Control Operators, this tool enables them to get a deep insight in mosquito activity times. It counts the number of mosquitoes entering a mosquito trap through the device with a >90% accuracy and therefore will increase the effectiveness of the use of the traps. Pest Control Operators will also be able to anticipate an increase in mosquito populations and adjust their overall mosquito control accordingly. This way the pest control operator will be more successful in delivering the required service to their customers.
Modern technology of the BG-Counter
Due to the digital era, the counter can be operated remotely from anywhere in the world as long as telephone reception is available. Operating times and CO2 emissions can all be adjusted from the dashboard of the web-application on your computer or telephone. Once the counter is activated it will send all information at regular intervals (to be decided by the operator of the counter) to the cloud from which it can be downloaded to your computer. Not only will the counter be counting mosquitoes, it will also provide information about humidity, temperatures and precipitation (rainfall). If the owner/operator of the counter wishes to share the information with other, invitations can be send to give access to all the information the application provides.
At the moment the counter is not yet able to identify what species of mosquito are flying into the trap, although this is something we are working on. The introduction of the “BG-Eye” is expected somewhere in the (near) future.
For Pest Control Operators who have a large(r) amount of traps installed, the BG-Counter is an indispensable tool. They can monitor mosquito activity and adjust their mosquito monitoring strategy accordingly. This will not only lead to an increase in customer satisfaction but it will also reduce costs. Due to accurate knowledge of the peak times of mosquito activity CO2 can be applied when needed most by using our BG-Timer.
